September is the holiday season in the Jewish world, and it’s time to face the truth – HOLIDAYS CAN BE TOUGH ON CAREGIVERS!
Here are 4 tips to help reduce guilt, frustration, tension, and stress during the holidays:
1. Reset Priorities.
Holidays are not about the food, the decorations, or the cards/email/Text messages. Instead, they are about spending time and making new memories with the people we love and hold dear.
Let go of the picture-perfect holiday stereotype and embrace the Good Enough holiday where you do less and connect more.
2. Own what you can control.
As much as you want your care recipient to enjoy the holidays and have a good experience, that might not be the case, and that’s not your fault. People have a right to their emotions. So focus on what you can control and release guilt and frustration about the things you cannot.
3. Shift from ME to WE
Create a holiday caregivers team. Whether they are family members or hired caregivers, delegate some of the tasks and share the holiday caregiving responsibilities.
4. Get your battery recharged.
Make sure you get some time off to recharge and rest.
Take a day, take a few hours, take a few minutes – every second counts.
Use tips #3 and get creative.
If you found this useful share it with someone else that can benefit from it because sharing is caring 🙂
